Curious Minds Memory Café | Dementia-Friendly Art & Conversation

  • Ruth's Table 3160 21st Street San Francisco, CA, 94110 United States (map)

Curious Minds Memory Café is a twice monthly gathering for people experiencing mild to moderate memory loss and their caregivers — spouses, family members, and friends.

The program includes in-gallery exhibition tours and art-based activities that are designed to benefit the person with dementia as well as those providing care, and the activities are designed to engage and support both simultaneously.

Environment: The program offers an engaging and supportive environment that encourages social interaction, conversation, and freedom of self-expression.

Instructor: Suzanne Reich

Theme: For this session, we will draw inspiration from Japanese Brazilian artist Tomie Ohtake (1936-2015) whose abstract sculptures and maquettes evoke land and sky.  Ohtake's work has been described as both rigorous and playful.  We'll use shape, space, and color to imagine site-specific artworks and design three-dimensional paper sculptures.  How might you use form, line and color to add to our world?

Registration: This is a free, in-studio program. Registration is not required.

Access: Located at the heart of SF’s Mission District, Ruth’s Table studio and adjacent outdoor patio are fully wheelchair accessible by ramp or level ground. Learn more about our location here.
