Curious Minds Memory Café | Dementia-Friendly Art & Conversation

Curious Minds Memory Café is a twice monthly gathering for people experiencing mild to moderate memory loss and their caregivers — spouses, family members, and friends.

The program includes in-gallery exhibition tours and art-based activities that are designed to benefit the person with dementia as well as those providing care, and the activities are designed to engage and support both simultaneously.

Environment: The program offers an engaging and supportive environment that encourages social interaction, conversation, and freedom of self-expression.

Memory Café : Personal Memories & Expression

Instructor: Virginia Jourdan

Theme: Personal History and Favorite Things

Objectives:

- Promote reminiscence and storytelling

- Foster emotional connection

- Use art to express personal stories

Activities:

1. Memory Collage with Personal Photos

- Materials: Photo copied photos, magazines, glue, scissors (safety scissors if appropriate)

- Activity: Assist elders in creating a collage of meaningful images

- Conversation: Encourage sharing stories related to the images.

Program Partner: Curious Minds Memory Café is offered in partnership with Jewish Family and Children’s Services.

Registration: This is a free, in-gallery program. Registration is recommended.

Access: Located at the heart of SF’s Mission District, Ruth’s Table gallery and adjacent outdoor patio are fully wheelchair accessible by ramp or level ground. Learn more about our location here.
