Join us on Wednesdays from 1:00–3:00 PM for an ongoing, open-ended creative studio experience facilitated by our Discovery Guides.

Each week, participants will be invited to explore a featured project while also having the freedom to work independently, continue a project from a previous session, or bring their own creative ideas to life. The program emphasizes creativity, community, sustainability, and the stories behind the things we make, while encouraging participants to learn, experiment, and connect with one another. Explore, create, and connect through hands-on creative projects in a welcoming, open studio environment.

Each week features a project idea, but we also encourage:

• Working on your own project

• Continuing a previous project

• Experimenting with materials and techniques

• Creating at your own pace

October Focus: Pen & Ink

Celebrate Inktober through a playful, hands-on exploration of pen and ink! This class invites participants to experiment with a variety of ink materials, drawing tools, and mark-making techniques. Each week will feature a different activity designed to encourage experimentation, play, and creativity with pen and ink.  

Activity Schedule:

Oct 7th   Pen and Ink Mark Making Activity – experiment with different inks, tools, and pens to dabble with different types and effects of mark making techniques. This can act as a reference sheet for your future creations, or as a stand-alone piece of art.

Oct 14th   Erasure Poetry Activity --  with a variety of inks and pens to pave the way, we will explore Erasure poetry, a form of creative writing where the artist takes an existing piece of text and removes most of the words, using the remaining words to form a unique new “found” poem.

Participants who create erasure poetry art in this class will have the option of having their piece(s) displayed in this year’s “Gallery Takeover” exhibit at Ruth’s Table which will be on view from January through March. Oct 21st  Wet on wet with Ink! In this meeting, we will apply wet ink or paint onto a damp or water-soaked surface so the colors bleed, spread, and merge organically getting to see the magical effects of using water and ink together to create unique imagery and patterns.

Oct 28th Still Life in Pen & Ink-- Special Halloween inspired still life will be set up where participants can create a finished ink drawing while incorporate the techniques and ideas explored throughout the month in this class.

Help us build our textile table exchange by bringing:

• Unconventional tools to use with ink such as Bamboo reed pens, feathers (quills), small cardboard strips, stiff brushes, old kitchen whisk or other utensils, sticks, and toothpicks

• Your favorite Pens (sharpies, gel pens), inks, papers (newspaper, tissue paper, old books, any paper you’ve collected that you want to experiment with)

• Other project-related materials

Please bring only clean, reusable items that relate to current or upcoming projects. Unused materials may need to be taken home.

All skill levels welcome.
