MONUMENTAL LEGACIES: CAPP STREET BLOCK PARTY & ART PROCESSION

Saturday, August 2 | 4:00-5:00pm
Onsite | Free

Join us for Monumental Legacies: Capp Street Block Party & Art Procession, a joyful celebration of intergenerational creativity, community, and collaboration.

The event kicks off with a lively procession—featuring musicians from Community Music Center—as we carry a youth-created monument from Ruth’s Table to 500 Capp Street, where it will be placed in dialogue with Mildred Howard’s Junipero Serra is Not My Father.

After the procession, gather at 500 Capp Street for closing remarks and a gratitude reception honoring the creative legacies built across generations by City Studio youth and older adult residents of Bethany Center.

This celebration activates the Capp Street Arts Corridor—a vibrant stretch shared by Ruth’s Table, Bethany Center, 500 Capp Street, Community Music Center, and Alioto Park—where intergenerational, cross-cultural, and community-rooted arts practices thrive.

“A work of art is a gesture of hope.” — Ruth Asawa

“Monuments are significant symbols—legacies are made through the actions we take, the words we speak, and the care we give to those who came before and those who come after.” — Mildred Howard

“The most important thing you can do is pay attention.” — David Ireland

City Studio thanks the Mary A. Crocker Trust, Enterprise for Youth, SFUSD, Haight Street Art Center, 500 Capp Street, Ruth’s Table, and the residents and staff of Bethany Center for making this program possible.
