BOLDLY
OURSELVES
QUEER EXPRESSIONS OF IDENTITY & COURAGE
EXHIBITION DATES
JUNE 17 - JULY 11, 2025
Presented by Ruth’s Table in partnership with Art With Elders Boldly Ourselves is about being fully human- especially when the world tells you not to be. In a time of rising fear and erasure, this exhibition offers a clear response: be bold. Not out of comfort, but necessity. Boldness here is visibility, resistance, and truth.
The exhibition centers LGBTQ+ older adults from the Bay Area, whose works- created in partnership with Art With Elders- reflect decades of resilience, joy, and creative defiance. Their personal narratives speak to lives shaped by exclusion, sustained by community, and expressed through art.
Also on view are two collaborative works by Ruth’s Table workshop participants: Progress Hands, a ceramic wall installation created with Kristin Houk of Clayer’s Club in the Bayview, and Pride Quilt, made in partnership with Mary Hogue of Mission Praxis.
Additionally, The Stud Pin Archives- led by artist Chloe Miller- honors the late Paul “Gidget” Sinclair and captures the sharp wit and cultural pulse of queer San Francisco from the 1970s to the 1990s. GOOCH’s photographs frame drag, protest, and nightlife as essential acts of queer visibility. Breath presents transparent, life-sized sculptures of trans, intersex, and non-binary bodies- affirming that visibility, care and solidarity are vital to liberation. Peter Warren’s layered abstractions reflect queer inheritance and emotional memory.
Together, these works form a living archive of courage, imagination and collective presence.
